I paint as art therapy not as true art. Let me explain. I suffered a stroke a few years ago. One of my deficits is that my brain gets easily overstimulated by not being able to simultaneously process multiple stimuli. One of the techniques I use to slow my brain down and unload its chaos is art therapy. I begin to paint and allow my brain to interpret, express, and resolve the chaos it experiences. That creative process and resulting artwork is what ends up on the canvas. I am honored to have one of my pieces included in the 2025 Artist Collaboration Series. Sunflowers can grow strong and tall, even in the most adverse of conditions, thereby symbolizing strength and resilience. By spotlighting this piece of artwork, I hope to inspire others who have suffered brain injuries to find resilience in and through their own healing and recovery journey.
